You could say that J.B. Ellis has deep roots in the customs brokerage business. The history of the firm extends back to 1936 when it operated under the name of Davidson and Ellis. The current company was formed in 1949. In January of 1990, Glen Mullett and Graeme Arnott purchased J.B. Ellis & Co. Ltd., and since that time, the firm has risen steadily to become one of the finest international trade service firms in the country. Our brokerage team consists of highly educated, service minded professionals with a combined average of over 20 years’ experience in the customs brokerage industry.
While our history is important, we are committed to utilizing the latest and most up-to-date form of communication and technical services available. This makes our operation more efficient and allows us to pass the savings on to our clients. For example, we are digitally linked to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), which means we can get your goods released quickly and efficiently, at any location in Canada. Our paperless technology has made it possible for us to lead the way in environmental sustainability by eliminating the enormous amount of paper generally required to facilitate the Customs process.
“Our company has received much advice and many solutions to a number of technical and logistical problems that have arisen and your council has been most helpful. Personally, I most appreciate the personal nature of J.B. Ellis’ style of doing business.”
Mark G., Traffic Manager
"We are a large company, why should we utilize the services of a smaller broker?"
Larger brokers tend to communicate poorly, have trouble with consistency and application, and are not very adaptable to change. A smaller, highly automated broker like J.B. Ellis can offer personalized service and can adapt to changing business environments. Smaller companies tend to be more innovative in terms of designing specific programs to meet customer needs. Our lower overhead means savings can be passed on to our clients.
